Celebrating Holidays This 2020

Family Celebrating a Holidays inside their house

When people think of Labor Day or any other typical holiday, they often think of parties, picnics, and parades. But with the current COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s celebrations will be nothing like you’ve experienced before.

That doesn’t mean holidays this 2020 can’t be fun, though. There are several ways to enjoy yourself while still sheltering in place. Take a look at the ideas below:

Host a Virtual Party

These days, starting a party likely means starting up the Zoom app. As long as you’re with great people, you’re bound to have a great time. Besides, many of the fun things you do at parties can be done in virtual gatherings, too. You’d be surprised by how easy it is to do drinking games or karaoke night remotely. You can also join events like this virtual 90s-themed Labor Day Party or the remote livestock auction at the Okanogan County Fair.

Hold a Lakeside Picnic

A great perk of owning Methow Valley real estate is the easy access to scenic Lake Chelan. On Labor Day and other upcoming holidays, what better way to relax and unwind than to spend a day at the lake? To enjoy the outdoors safely, make sure everyone wears a mask the entire time. Choose a spot that’s appropriately distanced from others and use beach chairs or umbrellas to cordon off your area. Bring plenty of hand sanitizers and wipes for when you have to use the public bathrooms.

Do a Backyard Barbecue

Many of our national holidays usually come replete with BBQ parties. Sadly, holding these in parks and other public spaces is not advisable as these become breeding grounds for virus transmission.

The good news is that you can still have your holiday barbecue party, albeit with some modifications. For starters, pare down your guest list to meet the county’s guidelines on mass gatherings. Try to entertain guests outside as much as possible and continue to observe social distancing. It’s best to ask guests to bring their own drinks, plates, and utensils to further minimize risk. For the menu, food served as individual servings such as hotdogs, burgers, and kebabs are ideal.

Organize a Watch Party

With theaters still closed, cinephiles need to be creative in getting their film fix. Luckily, watch parties let you view great movies from the safety and comfort of your home. Just call up some friends, agree on a movie to watch, and set a time and date to stream it. You can also fire up Zoom to share your reactions in real-time. Films such as Disney’s Mulan will also be streamed instead of screened, so you don’t even have to step out to catch movies you’ve been dying to watch.

Pamper Yourself

When one of those highly anticipated holidays comes around, you can treat your weary bones to a well-deserved at-home spa day. Light up some scented candles, drop in a luxurious bath bomb, and take a relaxing dip. Take this opportunity to pamper your skin by applying a face mask and using a gentle exfoliant. And since you’re going full-on me-time, give yourself a mani-pedi, too.
