Designing Your Perfect Valentine’s Getaway at Lake Chelan

Nothing says romance like watching the sun set over the water. Whether you’re making plans for Valentine’s Day or trying to surprise your significant other during your next Chelan, WA real estate appointment, here are some idyllic date ideas in and around the lake area.

Explore Lake Chelan

Lake Chelan is the biggest natural lake in Washington State. At approximately 50 miles in length and depths of 1,500 feet, this picturesque lake is framed by hills and mountains with stunning views from the water and the shoreline. Take your S.O. boating, paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skiing, or parasailing for a memorable day on the lake.

You’ll find over 15 docks and equipment rental services at various points around the lake. The necessary permits can be purchased from the ranger station in Downtown Chelan.

For a more relaxed romantic rendezvous, opt for a picnic on the shoreline. Pick a spot, roll out a blanket, and watch boats float idly on the water while you and your S.O. sip wine.

Camp under the stars

Summer is peak season for camping in and around Lake Chelan. However, camping can be enjoyed year-round given the natural beauty and community events that make the area such a wonderful destination, no matter the season.

You’ll find several well-maintained campgrounds in the area. Popular choices include Lake Chelan State Park, which features a vast 139-acre campground amidst a lush forest on the southern edge of the lake.

There’s also Lakeshore RV Park further up on the northern shore, which is much closer to downtown and its convenient amenities, including shops and restaurants.

Elsewhere in the scenic Chelan Valley you’ll find Wapato Lake Campground and several smaller lakes if you feel like traveling off the beaten path.

Sample local wines

Lake Chelan wineries have been growing grapes and producing wine since the 1890s. It’s one of the smallest designated American Viticulture Areas (AVAs) in Washington State boasting over 250 scenic acres of vineyards and nearly 30 prestigious wineries.

Take your S.O. for a romantic wine tasting at one of the wineries that command stunning views of the lake. Many of the wineries in the area are boutique and family-owned, so if you’re curious about the winemaking process, you might get the chance to interact with some of the local vintners. Some of these wineries also have on-site bistros serving small bites to complement your wine.

Sample local ale and cider

If wine isn’t your S.O.’s thing, try the locally produced ales and ciders. The eastern section of Washington State is famed for hops and fruit while Lake Chelan is known for its cideries and breweries.

Aside from hard ciders made from apples, Lake Chelan cideries also serve ciders made from pears, cherries, and raspberries.

You’ll also find several craft breweries in and around the valley with establishments serving small batch beers made on-site.

Explore Downtown Chelan

When all else fails, there’s always Downtown Chelan, where you’ll find shops and restaurants to pass the time with your S.O.

Popular downtown attractions include Chelan Museum, which documents the town’s mining and logging heritage, and Chelan Riverwalk Park, which features a scenic loop trail for strolling and jogging.

You can also book a room at Grandview on the Lake and Campbell’s Resort just outside of town. These hotels command stunning views of the lake and the valley for the ultimate staycation.
