How to Deep Clean Every Area in Your House

As Lake Chelan Realtors will tell you, first impressions matter when you’re selling your home. That’s why cleaning your home is an absolute must.

We’ve prepared this quick guide that will teach you how to quickly but effectively deep clean your home:

Cleaning vs. Disinfecting

The two words might seem interchangeable, but they’re not. Cleaning simply means to clear away mess, while disinfection means to sterilize something so it’s germ-free. If you’re selling Lake Chelan real estate, you’ll have to do both.

Before getting started, have your cleaning essentials ready. These include items such as mops, sponges, scrub brushes, buckets, and brooms. You can use store-bought cleaning disinfectants, but you can also make your own by mixing a cup of bleach in a pail of water.

For your safety, be sure to don latex gloves, a face mask, and eye protection as disinfectants often contain noxious chemicals.

Cleaning Your Kitchen

As with all rooms, start at the top by dusting the ceiling, light fixtures, vents, and fans. Next, clear clutter on your kitchen counter then put items back into shelves or cupboards. You’ll also want to disinfect high-touch areas in your kitchen, such as light switches, stove knobs, and cabinet handles. Give your backsplash a good scrubbing to remove food stains and grease— a paste of baking soda and water should do the trick. Likewise, thoroughly clean your sink with a chlorine-free solution.  Take this opportunity to also clean large appliances such as your oven, stove, and fridge.

Cleaning Your Living Room

Regularly replace pillowcases and wash throw pillows every three months. Use a disinfecting spray to clean coffee tables and end tables but let the solution soak for five minutes before wiping it away. Your remote control is another high-touch item. Wipe it clean with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution. Rugs and couches gather lots of dust but you can use your vacuum to clean both. Take and wash down your drapes and give the window sills a good scrub.

Cleaning Your Bathroom

Before anything else, open the windows to ventilate the space. Proceed to wash surfaces like the sink, wall, floor, tub, and toilet thoroughly with a disinfecting cleaner. Dingy grout can be scrubbed clean using baking soda paste. If you have a glass shower door, mix one part distilled vinegar and three parts water to create a DIY glass cleaner. Soap scum tends to develop on tiles but you can quickly remove it with baking soda and vinegar paste.

Cleaning Your Bedroom

Make sure to replace and wash linens often, especially if someone in the house is sick. Since mattresses can’t simply be tossed into your washer, use a fabric-safe disinfectant spray instead. You should also declutter the space by taking out all items that don’t belong in the bedroom. Proceed to wipe down surfaces such as cabinets, mirrors, and windows. Use your vacuum to clean the rug (if you have one) and the draperies.
