Lake Chelan is a wonderful place to visit any time of the year, but it is especially inviting in the summer. The crystal clear waters against cloudless blue skies, lush green surroundings, and the majestic Chelan Mountains in the distance are every vacationer’s dream.

There’s more than one way to have a fun-filled summer getaway in Lake Chelan. While water activities top the list of fun things to do, you can enjoy a host of other adventures as well.

Here are just a few of the amazing things waiting for you in this piece of paradise:

    1. Endless days at the lake

As the largest natural lake in Washington state, Lake Chelan offers endless water fun. You can go swimming, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, parasailing, and more. The National Forest Service and the National Park Service maintain 15 docks where you can anchor your boat. If you don’t have your own gear or watercraft, you can rent one at the numerous rental businesses in the area. After all the physical exertion, you can enjoy a packed lunch or snacks in one of the many picnic areas around the beach. Or simply drop in at a nearby restaurant — you’ll find plenty of options in the area, from barbeque and burger joints to fine dining places serving all kinds of cuisines.

    2. Magical lake tours

Have an unforgettable tour of the lake through Lady of the Lake, which offers cruises that will take you around the area and bring you to Stehekin, a charming community in the North Cascades National Recreation Area, or Holden Village, an isolated village located in the stunning Glacier Peak Wilderness. Or, you can create your own tour through various charter boat services found in the area.

    3. Camping in the wilderness

Lake Chelan is a popular camping destination, especially in the summer. You’ll find numerous campsites where you can sleep under the stars or in the comfort of your RV. The most popular spot is Lake Chelan State Park, a 139-acre park dedicated to camping, located in a wooded area along the south shore of the lake. Other public camping sites include Lakeshore RV Park, which has around 165 full hook-up sites for RVs, and Twenty-File Mile Creek, a 232-acre park found on the west side of the lake, featuring a marina that provides boaters with scenic access to the upper parts of Lake Chelan.

    4. Wine tasting on the hills

Lake Chelan has an enduring winemaking tradition that goes all the way back to 1891. The region has been designated an AVA and is considered one of the smallest AVAs in the state. There are over 35 wineries in Lake Chelan, most of them found on hilltops where the conditions are excellent for grape growing. In addition to sampling excellent wines, visitors to the Lake Chelan wineries are also treated to gorgeous views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains, and, in some establishments, overlooking views of the lake. Among the top places to go are Tsillan Cellars, Benson Vineyards Estate Winery, Amos Rome Vineyards, and Succession Wines.
